Georgetown Athletics Launches The Blueprint as Name, Image and Likeness Program

From Georgetown Athletics:

The Georgetown University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the launch of The Blueprint, a program aimed to aid student-athletes in navigating the Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) legislation. Partnerships with Athliance and INFLCR will bolster the comprehensive program into one of the most innovative in the country.

The Department is proactively seeking partners to ensure student-athletes do not jeopardize their most valuable asset – their eligibility. Georgetown has adopted a policy reflecting NCAA guidance.
The three-pronged approach of INFLCR, Athliance and Georgetown’s Sports Industry Management program will utilize different partnerships and University assets to ensure that all aspects of the legislation will be covered from student-athletes’ strategy and education to compliance and financial literacy.

“Name, Image and Likeness has been on the forefront of NCAA legislation for a number of years now and, as a Department, we are positioning ourselves to best serve our student-athletes,” said Francis X. Rienzo Director of Intercollegiate AthleticsΒ Lee Reed. “A number of student-athletes have already taken advantage of new opportunities and we have been by their side ensuring they have all of the necessary information to build their personal brands.”

INFLCR
INFLCR is the nation’s leading brand-building platform for student-athletes. INFLCR’s platform helps clients send internal media and national photography content to personalized galleries for each of their athletes, coaches and other brand ambassadors for sharing to their social media accounts.

Additionally, select teams will have access to INFLCR Plus which will equip athletics staff with the software, assets and guidance to maximize messaging to potential recruits, while providing unique insights for current student-athletes looking to build their brands and benefit from future NIL opportunities. INFLCR’s NIL team assists college athletic departments in the implementation of content, compliance, and recruiting strategies to support athletics programs navigating new challenges and dynamics coming from eventual student-athlete NIL commercial activities.

“We couldn’t be more excited for the launch of The Blueprint,” said INFLCR CEO Jim Cavale. “We’ve been working with Georgetown since 2019, and as we enter the NIL era, this expanded partnership will provide their student-athletes with even more brand-building resources and educational materials to help them make the most of NIL when opportunities become available.”

Athliance
Georgetown is one of a handful of schools to participate in a pilot program with Athliance to mitigate the expected strain that NIL opportunity management is going to place on university compliance departments nationwide. Athliance provides a comprehensive solution that will not only assist with educating student-athletes about the new processes and pitfalls, but also simplify and automate the input, approval, monitoring, and reporting process for all NIL opportunities.

Athliance has designed a proprietary opportunity management software that will empower compliance departments with the tools and resources needed to automate the communication and workflow of every single opportunity presented to student-athletes, start-to-finish. These opportunities will be required to provide minimum “disclosures” of all details by the proposed NCAA legislation.

“Athliance is beyond excited to partner with Georgetown Athletics in order to help assist their Compliance officers with the additional demands and burdens brought on by Name, Image and Likeness,” said Athliance Chief Executive Officer Peter Schoenthal. “While most in the industry talk about branding and marketing, we are solely focused on educating and protecting both student-athletes and universities alike from the pitfalls that are sure to come. Nobody truly knows what to expect, but one thing is certain: NIL is here to stay.”

The Blueprint
Along with these partnerships, student-athletes will go through on-campus training with Georgetown Sports Industry Management faculty as well as guest speakers providing valuable knowledge and insight. The Blueprint program is comprised of four educational modules that will teach as well as create networking opportunities for student-athletes with leaders on campus and in the Washington, D.C. region.

The modules include:

  • Module 1 – NIL Introduction and Overview
  • Module 2 – NIL Reporting Process
  • Module 3 – Media Training and Brand Management
  • Module 4 – Tax Reporting and Financial Literacy
