Jim Cavale’s Tip of the Week: Message, Market, Media

If an athlete would like to improve their personal brand on social media, it starts with the three M’s: Message, Market, Media.

Influencer (INFLCR) founder and CEO Jim Cavale, one of the nation’s leading experts on personal branding, points to those three areas as the starting point for any athlete who would like to step up their social-media game.

“The formula really starts with Message,” Cavale says. “What are you about? You need to establish that,” through the content you post.

“What you don’t need to do is come up with something that doesn’t mesh with your Market, [which is] who follows you. If you’re going to create a message that doesn’t resonate with your followers — right now the majority of your followers are probably family, friends and fans — you need to think about your message aligning with that.

“And lastly, your media choice is Instagram, Twitter, Facebook or Snapchat — you need to choose the social media or two that is where your market is.”
