Syracuse Football's revival gets tech boost to amplify story on social media

One of the compelling stories of the 2018 college football season has been resurgence of Syracuse Football under head coach Dino Babers. The Orange jumped to a 4-0 start, their best since 1991, and then played two of the most exciting finishes of the season in back-to-back road games.

As part of their revival, Syracuse has enlisted technological help to share its story. The Orange are the latest client for Influencer (INFLCR), a SaaS platform for sports team properties to store, track and deliver their content across their influencer network of athletes, coaches, former athletes, media, etc.

“Syracuse Football is extremely excited about our partnership with INFLCR,” said Ryan Nix, SU creative director. “Thanks to INFLCR we now have the ability to share and distribute content in an effortless and timely fashion.

Our student athletes are an extension of our university, and with the help of INFLCR we now can deliver shareable content to our student athletes that showcases their experiences, memories, and accomplishments at Syracuse University.“

Each Syracuse player can access their personalized gallery of content on their INFLCR mobile app, which they can use to download and share specific content to their social media platforms, with all user activity tracked back to an INFLCR dashboard for the university.

Syracuse’s implementation set an INFLCR company record for a launch. A virtual activation included each athlete receiving a text message with instructions and a link to download the INFLCR app, where personalized galleries were already set up and waiting for Syracuse players and coaches to have their first experience within their INFLCR mobile app.

As a result, 83 Syracuse football players and coaches were activated in Syracuse’s INFLCR account in less than 48 hours, with those players combining to download and share 318 content items from the more than 1,700 content pieces made available to them by the Syracuse Football creative team led by Nix.

INFLCR’s software and mobile app allows teams to send the content they create directly to the mobile devices of their athletes, enabling them to easily share across their social-media platforms to reach a larger audience.

“We were thrilled to be able to seamlessly activate Syracuse Football mid-season as they were traveling to Clemson, S.C., to their game last week,” said Liz Ballard, INFLCR vice president of client strategy. “ For our clients that also use Teamworks, we are able to easily communicate with athletes and coaches so that they can quickly confirm their INFLCR account and within seconds have access to their content galleries.

I’m proud of how our INFLCR client success team has made it a priority to create an activation experience that is simple and secure, allowing teams to be able to start using our system at any point in their season.”

Partnering with Syracuse is particularly rewarding for INFLCR founder and CEO Jim Cavale, a Syracuse native.

“Adding Syracuse University Athletics as our newest client is very exciting for me,” Cavale said. “It’s my hometown team. I grew up in Syracuse and rooted for the Orange. While I don’t live there anymore — I moved down south — my family is still there and I still call it home. …

“This partnership has started in a great way with Syracuse Football. Ryan Nix, the creative director, and Brad Wittke, the director of football operations, have been so great at getting the

student-athletes and coaches engaged right off the bat. The evidence is in the activation, which took less than 24 hours to get Syracuse up-and-running and took place during their travel to Clemson.

“Ryan and Brad made sure all the athletes and coaches knew about the INFLCR text coming their way, and they listened, by downloading the app at a more than 80 percent rate and had more than 300 shares in the first weekend alone. That is huge for Syracuse from a PR and branding and recruiting standpoint, as they reached tens of thousands of new people with their brand because of this. We couldn’t be more excited.”
